An Artificial Life-Based Vegetation Modelling Approach for Biodiversity Research
نویسنده
چکیده
Vegetation modelling is an important topic in the sciences in at least two streams of applications. The former applies the modelling and simulation of vegetation for predicting the impacts of climate change on forestry, studies of forest succession for resource and habitat management, and animal habitat modelling while the latter attempts to reconstruct past landscapes for geological studies or for interpretive and mitigation strategies in landscape archaeology. The modelling techniques proposed in this chapter apply to both. A third stream while useful, are limited in its applicability to larger problems at hand. This stream relates to the modelling of the architecture or structure of plants and has been in development since the 1970s, e.g. Honda (1971) and Mech and Prusinkiewicz (1996). A survey of literature in the two streams of research boundaries has shown differing but quite abstract

Monthly runoff forecasting by means of artificial neural networks (ANNs)
Over the last decade or so, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools formodelling hydrological processes such as rainfall runoff processes. However, the employment of a single model doesnot seem to be an appropriate approach for modelling such a complex, nonlinear, and discontinuous process thatvaries in space and time. For this reason, this study aims at de...
متن کاملAn Approach of Artificial Neural Networks Modeling Based on Fuzzy Regression for Forecasting Purposes
In this paper, a new approach of modeling for Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) models based on the concepts of fuzzy regression is proposed. For this purpose, we reformulated ANN model as a fuzzy nonlinear regression model while it has advantages of both fuzzy regression and ANN models. Hence, it can be applied to uncertain, ambiguous, or complex environments due to its flexibility for forecas...
متن کاملPotential site selection in ecotourism planning using spatial decision support tool
Northern areas of Pakistan have blessed with extremely beautiful natural landscapes, waterfalls, glaciated mountains, biodiversity rich valleys and forests and have extraordinary potential for ecotourism. Study is designed to propose potential sites for ecotourism in Kohistan, which is a least developed but biodiversity rich area of Pakistan. Poor planning and mismanagement of tourism practice...

Abstract Background and objectives: Fire as a frequent phenomenon in rangelands and because of its complicated and different effects on natural ecosystems, has great importance. Awareness of such fire effects on vegetation cover in point of rangeland management after fire is important and helps better Understanding and sustainable management of rangelands. Changing in plant structure and compo...
متن کاملRisks assessment of forest project implementation in spatial density changes of forest under canopy vegetation using artificial neural network modeling approach
Risks assessment of forest project implementation in spatial density changes of forest under canopy vegetation using artificial neural network modeling approach Nowadays, environmental risk assessment has been defined as one of the effective in environmental planning and policy making. Considering the position and structure of vegetation on the forest floor, the main role of forest under ca...
